Hi, I am Chef Zara. In this post, I will guide you through the Fallout Cookbook.

I love discovering new food and cooking with friends and family. One of the most common questions that I often get is for cookbook recommendations. I have created this guide for friends, family, and new friends alike. I hope that you enjoy our site.

Vault Dweller’s Official Cookbook

Outside of her family, Victoria Rosenthal loves two activities, cooking and video games, so what better way to combine the two than to create a video game-themed cookbook, Fallout: The Vault Dweller’s Official Cookbook?  The protagonist of “Fallout,” The Vault Dweller, lives in an underground nuclear shelter, Vault 13, and his job is to peruse what’s left of the world above for a particular computer chip that will fix the water supply in the Vault. This customizable character also hangs with other survivors who provide him with missions to accomplish, and in the process, he does battle for action points.

To connect the game and the book, Victoria has taken liberties with the names of the dishes. For example, your standard dip becomes “Mole Rat Wonder Meat Dip,” and Pork Pot Pies becomes “Deathclaw Wellingham.” Victoria even goes a step further by adding a cool little side box with the acronym: S.P.E.C.I.A.L. (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck), each representing the remarkable power of the protagonist.

You need to see more about this exciting and amazing Fallout Cookbook! To play, to cook, to live!

Appetizers

1. Rolled Deathclaw Egg (Rolled Ham Omelet) p.27

Fallout cookbook 1

This dish looks absolutely otherworldly with a combination of eggs, heavy cream, cream cheese, chives, and paprika, along with a tasty slaw. Note: According to Victoria, it’s difficult to track actual chicken eggs, but seeing as there are a wide variety of “Deathclaw nests” at every turn, she recommends substituting six pre-war eggs with two Deathclaw eggs, and you’ll be good to go!

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Adds +1 Intelligence for 1-hour

2. Mystery Meat-Wrapped Nukalurk (Bacon Wrapped Scallops) p.31

Fallout cookbook 2

Twelve sea scallops, butter, brown sugar, cumin, fenugreek, and cayenne pepper are all wrapped in bacon, and you have a masterpiece made in heaven! Out of all the recipes in this cookbook, this might be the one that jumps off the page the most! Note: This recipe is rated accessible with 10-minutes prep time and another 10 minutes to book, and this dish will provide you and 11 of your fellow travelers a S.P.E.C.I.A.L. +1 endurance for 1 hour.

Soups and Stews

3. Gulper Slurry (Clam Chowder) p.43

Fallout cookbook 3

Who doesn’t love a good Gulper Slurry on a Saturday afternoon? Pull together your garlic, celery, whole clams, thyme, potatoes, heavy cream Worcestershire sauce, and a few other things, and you’ll be enjoying a fresh round of gulper Slurry in no time. Don’t fear, this dish is only rated medium difficulty, and the rewards of your hard work will provide for you and three of your friends

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Adds +1 intelligence for 1 hour.

4. Tato Soup p.53

Fallout cookbook 4

With the fallout shelter looking bleak and the post-apocalyptic winter coming into full swing, our protagonist credits the increased radiation in the area for the added flavor and abundance of “Tatos” in the region. With the main ingredients of sweet potato, russet potato, carrots, tomatoes, onion, shallots, leaks, and a whole bunch of spices, this colorful dish is bound to shame the rest of your appetizers.

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Adds +3 endurance for 4 hours.

5. Radstag Stew (Goat Curry) p.59

Fallout cookbook 5

You must first consider whether you value your tastebuds enough to subject them to the heat that this dish brings. Combining ginger, garlic cloves, red onions, and serrano pepper will surely test your will. But don’t worry, the chopped tomatoes, coconut milk, and white rice will take off some of the edges. If you can survive the apocalypse, you can indeed survive “Radstag Stew.”

Medium difficulty, prep time 30 minutes, cook time 45 minutes, serves 6

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Adds +2 agility to 2 hours

Sides

6. Blamco Mac and Cheese p.65

Fallout cookbook 6

Even though the nuclear winter has taken full effect, some companies have managed to survive, one such company is Blamco, famous for their Mac & Cheese. With that said, it is unclear if all their boxes of Mac & Cheese are edible, so it’s probably for the best to gather the following ingredients and create your own, Vault 13 special: elbow macaroni, carrots, heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper, cheddar and fontina cheese, and of course salt and pepper.

Easy, prep time 30 minutes, cook time 30 minutes, serves 5

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Adds +1 agility for 1-hour

7. Sugar-Bombed Carrots p.75

Fallout cookbook 7

Growing fresh carrots in the Vault is no easy task, especially considering the fact that the water supply is questionable at best, so you’ll have to make your way above ground and hope for the best. If you are successful, you’ll have one heck of a sugary treat with a vegetable core to give you some balance. Just take your newly gathered carrots, add sugar, maple syrup, butter, milk, brown sugar, Sugar Bombs, or other frosted flakes cereal, walnut, and finally some ginger, and your sugar coma awaits!

Easy, prep time 30 min, cook time 1:30 minutes, serves 4

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Adds +2 perception for 30-minutes

Mains

8. Dusty’s Brahmin (Bison) Burgers p.89

Fallout cookbook 8

While it will be challenging to find any bison after the great war, you can choose a nice, two-headed Brahmin steer. We understand that this Brahmin mutant might not be the most appealing, but you must do what you must do. If you can get your hands on some friendly Bison, grind it up, dice up some onion, slice up a tomato, sprinkle some salt and pepper, and top off with some mayo or Nuka-Cola B.B.Q. Sauce, cheddar cheese, and a pretzel bun, and enjoy!

Easy

Prep time 15 minutes

Cook time 10 minutes

Serves 4

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Adds +2 agility for 30 minutes.

9. Mirelurk Queen Steak (Crab-stuffed salmon) p.91

Fallout cookbook 9

If you are in need of health, then we highly recommend a Mirelurk Queen Steak and the mirelurk egg omelette throws some stuff in the game. In the barren wastelands of the present day, these Royal Mirelurk are plentiful, and best of all, they will “heal” you to the tune of 200 hit points. But for this to work, you’ll need the full complement of ingredients, including scallions, mushrooms, spinach, crabmeat, cream cheese, lemon juice, celery salt, and salmon fillets.

easy, prep time 20-minutes, cook time 30-minutes, serving 2

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. +2 Endurance for 1-hour

10. Radscorpion (Chicken En Croute) p.99

Fallout cookbook 10

If you are having difficulty finding a non-mutated chicken in the wastelands in 2281, you do have the option of a Radscorpion. Now we understand your hesitance, as munching down on a mutated arachnid is not the most appetizing option, so if you can find a chicken that has yet to fall prey to mutation, all you have to do is add shallots, scallions, artichoke hearts, cream cheese, fennel, and wrap it all up in some tasty pastry sheets, and best of all, this dish will earn you +1 Charisma for 1-hour.

Medium difficulty, prep time 30 minutes, cook time 1 hour, serving 12

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. +1 Charisma for 1-hour

Desserts

11. Mutfruit (Berry Crumble) p.115

Fallout cookbook 11

The great thing about snaking on some fresh “Mutfruit” is that, eaten in small portions, it does not give off much in the way of radiation, but if you don’t watch your intake, you could be on the way to your mutation. To avoid this, your best bet is to scrounge up some old-fashioned blueberries and blackberries and combine them with some lemon zest, lemon juice, sugar, honey, and nutmeg for your filling, and put together your flour, oats, sugar, cloves, coriander, cinnamon, salt, and butter. You’ll be enjoying a nice dessert.

Difficulty: Easy, prep time: 30-minutes, cook time:30-minutes, serves 6

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. +2 agility for 2-hours

12. Tapioca pudding p.121

Fallout cookbook 12

It is without a doubt that the wastelands of the world are a dreary place. Many buildings lay in rubble, and the once green countryside has been reduced to the scorched earth of brown weeks and charred tree stumps. With such a picture to wake up to, you’ll need a “pick me up,” and what’s better than a nice serving of tapioca pudding? Best of all, this recipe is rated as “easy,” and it will provide you with +1 Luck for 30- minutes! You’ll need some pearl tapioca, coconut milk, egg yolks, cornstarch, mango, lime juice, sugar, salt, and vanilla extract to turn that dreary place into your own wonderland of beauty.

Easy, prep-time 12 hours, cook time 30-minutes, serves 4

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. +1 Luck for 30-minutes

13. Old Lady Palmer’s Sweet Roll p.135

Fallout cookbook 13

A post-apocalyptic cookbook would be nothing without a good helping of Sweetrolls, and Victoria’s take on this desert does not disappoint. Just gather up your milk, yeast, butter, sugar, salt, egg, vanilla extract, cinnamon, cardamon for the rolls, and some cream cheese, confectioner’s sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, butter, and milk for the icing, and you can expect a slice of heaven in every bite.

Medium difficulty, pre-time 1 hour, cook time 25 minutes, serving 14 rolls

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. +1 Endurance for 1-hour

Drinks

14. Nuka-Cola p.165

Fallout cookbook 14

While the great war forced the once powerful Nuka-Cola bottling company to cease production many years ago, you can still enjoy your old favorite by following this simple recipe for a great drink. First, you’ll have to get a hold of that computer chip so that you can fix the water supply in the Vault, but once you do, just add sugar, zest and juice of ½ orange, zest and juice of ½ lime, zest and juice of ½ lemon, a cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, coriander seed, star anise, browning sauce, and vanilla extract. You can enjoy a staple of the pre-war American experience.

Difficulty level: easy, pre-time 12 hours, cook time 30 minutes, serves 15-20

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. +1 endurance for 30-minutes

15. Vim Captain’s Blend p.178

Fallout cookbook 15

Like me, you will want something to take the edge off living in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. How many days can you spend searching for that elusive electronic chip and completing missions before you reach your breaking point? With that in mind, we recommend a combination of Vodka, clamato juice, Worcestershire sauce, tabasco sauce, lime juice, lemon juice, salt, garlic powder, fish sauce, and, if you’re feeling adventurous, a bacon strip for garnishing.

Medium difficulty, prep time 10 minutes, cook time 5-minutes, serves 1

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. +1 agility for 30 minutes

Final Thoughts

Fallout Cookbook 16

Victoria is not new to this concept. Fallout: The Vault Dweller’s Official Cookbook is her seventh iteration; preceded by God of War: The Official Cookbook of the Nine Realms; Destiny: The Official Cookbook; Street Fighter: The Official Street Food Cookbook; The Ultimate Final Fantasy XIV Cookbook; Halo, The Official Cookbook; and finally, My Pokémon Cookbook: Delicious Recipes Inspired by Pikachu and Friends.

Victoria also runs her website, pixelatedprovisions.com, where she talks about the pros and cons of the playing video games she and her husband are playing, along with recipes based on these games. Pixelatedprovisions is a fantastic supplement to Victoria’s books as it offers a wide array of recipes to choose from along with gaming commentary.

This book is an example of quality and not quantity. It’s not an incredibly long book, topping off at only 190 pages, with each section only covering 10-15 dishes on average, but, as you’ve seen, these dishes are interesting, complex, and very appealing to the pallet. And the photography is fantastic, making these dishes almost jump off the page.

Behind the grotesque names like Mystery Meat-Wrapped Nukalurk and Baked Bloatfly Lie, wonderful recipes for Bacon Wrapped Scallops and Vegetarian Meatloaf, you can even think about re create Blamco Mac Cheese. There are also some recipes that you might not find in your average cookbook, including Scotch Eggs, Goat Curry, and Bison Burgers.

Victoria Rosenthal has found a way to marry her two passions into one in a very creative and entertaining way. At first glance, Fallout: The Vault Dweller’s Official Cookbook looks a bit like a gimmicky cookbook, but it is a well-written guide to creating some very complex and exciting recipes with hip-up tasty versions that will both satisfy and inspire.

Based on the irradiated delicacies of the world of Bethesda Entertainment’s Fallout, also this Vault-Tec-approved cookbook provides fans of the award-winning series a new perspective on cooking.

With recipes inspired by their favorite Fallout foods. The author Victoria Rosenthal launched this video game from insight editions with the absolute best release party, with healthy and flavorful cuisine.
