FAQ

What is Czech Cuisine?

Czech Cuisine describes the food from the Czech Republic. It consists of soups, natural sauces, roast meat dishes, and other similar items. It is very fatty, often involving cooking with cream or animal fats. It is heavily inspired by countries like Germany, Hungary, and France. Originally Czech cuisine consisted of soups and wheat dishes; this makes sense, as the Czech people were originally mainly farmers. Later on, when farming livestock became cheaper, meat became a staple. Czech food is consumed in courses of up to five! This can draw this tradition back to the French, who also eat their meals in courses.

Popular dishes include Beef Goulash, Knedlíky, and Vepřo Knedlo Zelo. As with many Czech dishes, Beef Goulash is a meal that originated in Hungary. It is a rich soup or stew consisting of beef and vegetables seasoned in spices like paprika. It is a fairly simple dish but very filling and often provides leftovers! Knedlíky is boiled dumplings, often made of potatoes, and are usually served as a side dish. This isn’t always the case, though, as these dumplings can also be made with sweet fruits, making this an awesome dessert. Vepřo Knedlo Zelo is the ultimate Czech comfort food, consisting of roast pork covered in a savory gravy, dumplings, and sauerkraut. Many consider this dish to be the national dish of the Czech Republic.

What is Czech Cooking Like?

Thankfully, making Czech food is usually pretty simple, especially considering what you get out of it. Though Best Czech recipes are heavy in calories and carbs, what you get from them is a delicious and filling meal and heaps of leftovers. These dishes are meant to be served to family and friends over multiple courses, so expect to be in the kitchen for a long time. However, when you finally sit down to enjoy the fruits of your labor, you are guaranteed to enjoy a warm, delicious meal.
