Hi, I am Chef Zara. In this post, I will guide you through Argentina Cookbooks.

I love discovering new food and cooking with friends and family. One of the most common questions that I often get is for cookbook recommendations. I have created this guide for friends, family, and new friends alike. I hope that you enjoy our site.

From the second-largest country in South America

Food in Argentina isn’t a mere means to survival. Instead, it’s a way to show affection, a sign of warmth and friendship, and be a guest of honor at any festive celebration. The way Argentinians see food made them develop one of the most delicious cuisines around the world.

Argentinians also consider empanadas, an originally Spanish dish, an irreplaceable part of their culinary legacy. Not to forget, alfajores, which are Spanish biscuits, have a rich history that dates back to the 16th century. First, they traveled from the Middle East, hence the Arabic name, to Spain with Moors. Then, they arrived in Argentina with the invasion and were used to feed Spanish soldiers. Later on, Argentinians adopted them into their cuisine.

Let’s talk about Argentina ☀️

A wise author once said that a library is never complete, but I beg to differ. A library is complete if it has an Argentina cookbook standing on its shelves. That’s why I’ve reviewed the 10 best Argentina cookbooks on the market today.

Argentinian cuisine is largely influenced by the Mediterranean with a touch of European heritage, but how?

The long years that the Spanish invasion spent in Argentina had a colossal role in shaping its cuisine. Argentinians adopted many Spanish foods and put their own touch on them, like Chorizo. Chorizo is a classic sausage made remarkable by the South American touch that gave it its new name, Choripan.

Spain wasn’t the only country to leave its imprint on Argentinian cuisine. Italy also had its fair share after two million immigrants left it and went to Argentina in the 19th century. The influx of Italians introduced many new plates to the Argentinians, like Milanese and Provoleta.

Milanese is made from beef or chicken fried in butter, while Provoleta is a grilled cheese dish made from Provolone, the famous Italian cheese.

But not all Argentinian recipes have foreign origins. Argentinians are proud owners of Asado, which is barbeque in English. The origin of Asado dates back to the 19th century when large numbers of cattle roamed the country.

The wide availability of beef compelled locals to make it the main ingredient in their meals. So they tried roasting it on skewers, and voila! It remains a traditional Argentinian dish to this day.

It’s worth mentioning that Argentina still has one of the largest cattle herds in the world, so it’s no surprise that its cuisine depends mainly on beef. A quick walk down its streets amidst food trucks is enough to show you this fact.

As for spices, Argentinians don’t like to go the extra with them. Instead, they use the basics like salt, pepper, garlic, cumin, and paprika. And they make sure to use small amounts that don’t conceal the taste of meat.

Instead of spices, they use dips and sauces, like Chimichurri. Chimichurri is perhaps the most famous sauce in Argentina. It’s made from chopped parsley and olive oil, and they serve it next to grilled meat.

In short, Argentinian cuisine is a culinary marvel that took thousands of years and a mix of cultures to take shape. And you can bring it to your dinner table by buying an Argentinian cookbook.
